A 69 year old woman lost over 90 pounds throughout the last several months. She had an extensive work-up with an upper and lower GI endoscopy indicating no malignancy or reason for her weight loss. The patient subsequently underwent a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis, which indicated bilateral renal masses. She was referred to Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) where a CT scan showed a thyroid nodule. The patient underwent an ultrasound-guided needle biopsy of the left thyroid. Papanicolaou and Diff-Quik stained smears were made from the tissue.
