Right Pleural Effusion from a Patient with Right Lung Diffuse Nodular Inflitrates

An 83-year-old female presented with productive cough and shortness of breath for a period of several months. Her CT scan of the chest showed right lung diffuse nodular infiltrates and right pleural effusion. The Past Medical History revealed that the patient was a heavy smoker, had chronic heart failure and cardiovascular disease; no malignant history was found. The right thoracentesis was performed. One hundred cc of bloody fluid was collected and sent to cytological laboratory for evaluation.
